First Draft of Animatic: My first draft for the animatic consisted of putting the storyboard visuals alongside the pre-recorded sound I had of my Nan, Grandad and Mom. The sound element of the animatic didn't seem to work very well, as I feel as though there were parts of the sound where the volume was too loud or too quiet. This also correlated over where there were parts that didn't seem to flow as I'd made the mistake of trying to cut the sound down too much to create a shorter documentary.
To improve on my animatic for the second attempt, I will have to make sure there is a clear and concise flow of sound to correlate with what's happening on screen. The pace was too fast so therefore I will be making sure it's medium-paced and there isn't any sharp cuts that will then allow the audience to properly understand what is happening on screen.
I also feel as though the visuals were too rough to actually get my point across to the audience, I want to focus on the kind and generous nature of my Nan, but there wasn't enough sound I'd recorded of my Nan on her own. This will also result in me taking my Nan and Grandad back into the studio to get more in depth stories and information to allow the audience to identify the message and theme I'm trying to convey.
Second Test - Animatic
The second version of the animatic was easier to compile because I was finally able to put down my ideas in a stronger more fluent manner which also works alongside the soundtrack. Although it's not included in this small clip of the animatic, it's easier to get across through a digital plane because I felt I was able to experiment with colour and the ideas behind the Documentary itself.
Third Test - Animatic
I continued making the animatic digitally whilst being able to test out techniques I wanted to use, this method seemed easier as my documentary is going to be very experimental. I was able to use After Effects and Photoshop to create an animatic that truly represented what I wanted at the beginning of this module. Although, this isn't the final version, it is definitely coming together so that when I begin the negotiated production module I have a solid animatic with sound to refer back to.
After completing this version of the Animatic, I realised the sound didn't work properly - the levels kept shifting and I had to keep highering and lowering the sound levels manually to be able to hear anything. Therefore, I decided to re-edit the sound and make sure the levels were all at the same height. I noticed I'd accidentally recorded the sound in 41,000khz instead of 48,000khz. In the future, I will make sure I'm recording the sound at the correct levels so that I don't encounter these problems.
The final animatic is on the 'Week 13' page where it's used for the final submission of this module.
